The big three of Ukraine’s mobile carriers expect the 4G mobile service in the 1800 MHz to be launched by July 2018. Representatives of all three corporations said this to reporters after the tender in Kyiv on Tuesday, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
The CEO of lifecell Ismet Yazici said that his company is ready to launch 4G mobile service already by July, once the works on frequency conversion are completed.
“We are going to lauch the 1800 range in July. Nobody is allowed to lauch before July. Everyone is supposed to launch at the same time. Now the frequency exchange will begin, which is a very complicated process. I am not even sure if Ukraine has ever witnessed such a massive frequency exchange”, - the CEO of Kyivstar Petro Chernyshov said.
He pointed out that in terms of the necessary infrastructure Kyivstar is fully ready to launch the 4G service in the 1800 MHz range.
The Director of Vodafone-Ukraine Olha Ustinova also said that her company is ready to launch the 4G mobile service as well.
“I suppose we will launch the 4G service in the 2600 MHz range by the end of March, if nothing bad happens, while the service in the 1800 MHz range should be launched in early July”, - she said.
Earlier, all of the carriers expected the 4G connection to start operating by late March or early April. The Big 3 Ukrainian mobile carriers were ordered to pay a total of $220 million for licenses on 4G service provision in the 1800 MHz range on Tuesday.
On 2 March, The National Commission for State Regulation of Communications opened the envelopes with carriers’ bids for licenses on 4G service provision in the 1800 MHz and set out the start price for each additional lot that was introduced during the trading by voice.
The bidding began with the following minimum prices: lot #4 - $10.25 million, #5 - $10 million, #6 - $10.25 million.
