The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) asks Odesa court to sentence Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov to 12 years in jail. He is accused of acquisition of $3,5 million during the purchase of Krayan plant, as Ukrainian News reported citing Prosecutor Maksym Kravchenko.
He asks the court to recognize eight accused, including Trukhanov, guilty in the acquisition of $3,5 million of the state funds during the purchase of Krayan plant for significant sums.
The prosecutor’s office asks the court to confiscate $3,5 million arrested at the assets of Development Elite firm, which sold the building of the plant.
The SAP states that Trukhanov had the passport of the Russian citizen up to 2017 and according to Interpol, a person with similar appearance is on the international wanted list.
As a result, the SAP asked to sentence Trukhanov to 12 years in jail as the organizer of the crime network and his deputy Pavlo Vugelman to 11 years in jail.
It is asked to sentence accused Oleksy Spektor, Vasyl Shkryabai, Volodymyr Radionov, and Petro Zagodyrenko to 10 years in jail.
It is proposed to sentence accused Ihor Kravchenko to 11 years and Halyna Bohdanov to 7 years in jail.
The SAP also asks to confiscate all property of the accused and arrest them.
As it was reported earlier, Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov is suspected of violating the law due to the fact that he did not declare the property his wife owns.
The NABU detectives under the guidance of the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office served charges on Trukhanov due to the suspect of the embezzlement through the malpractice. Moreover, three people were detained on the same criminal proceeding.
The court released Trukhanov on the parole of Dmytro Golubov, the MP of Ukraine. Before this, the clashes near the court took place,38 people were detained.
