Since the beginning of lockdown (it was officially applied on March 12 – 112 International.), 166,000 newly unemployed people have been registered in Ukraine. This was stated by Acting Director of the State Employment Center Yulia Zhovtyak during a briefing which was broadcasted by 112 Ukraine TV channel.

According to Zhovtyak, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Lviv regions remain the leaders in unemployment.

"For the period of quarantine, i.e. since March 12, we have registered 166,000 new unemployed people. The leaders among the regions are, of course, large regions: Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Lviv regions," Zhovtyak said.

She also noted that 85,2 million dollars of assistance had been provided to the unemployed. This is 40% more than in 2019.

As we reported earlier, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution on the allocation of funds in order to provide financial assistance to the Compulsory State Social Insurance Fund of Ukraine in case of unemployment.

"The resolution will allow two goals to be solved. The first is to provide real help to those people who, unfortunately, have already lost their jobs. The second is to help employers pay wages to their employees and thus prevent layoffs," the statement reads.
