Russian Gazprom Company hindered the purchase of gas in Europe for Ukraine, and according to Russian newspaper, spent $ 5 billion for this purpose. This was stated on Facebook by commercial director of Naftogaz Ukraine Yuriy Vitrenko.

"We buy gas from the largest European gas companies. Many of them produce gas by themselves. Many also buy gas and other extractive companies. Including from Gazprom , which prevented us from buying gas in Europe. According to the information from Russian newspapers, Gazprom has spent $ 5 billion on unsuccessful attempts to block our imports from Europe ", he said.

This Vitrenko noted that the main factor in successful diversification of import gas supplies was the discovery of a new connection between the Ukrainian and Slovak gas transmission systems, as well as the Naftogaz enter to the European market for the procurement of gas there.

"We are grateful to the companies which were not afraid to to spoil relations with Gazprom and began to sell gas to us. And to sell at market prices, without any charge for the risk. In most months, the market prices for gas in Europe were lower than the contract with "Gazprom". I have repeatedly cited data on how much we saved on buying gas in Europe," he wrote.
