Petro Poroshenko met with representatives of the Ukrainian film industry to discuss the improvement of the draft law "On State Support of Cinematography in Ukraine" and agreed to prepare the text of a new draft law as soon as possible. It was reported by the Ukrainian president's press service.
The President reminded that exercised the right of veto, and returned the Law of Ukraine "On State Support of Cinematography in Ukraine" to the parliament with his proposals. The law was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on September 22, 2016.
"The purpose of this meeting is to find a common point of view and to ensure the early preparation and adoption of this bill," Poroshenko said.
"It is not necessary to convince me that our movie industry needs state support. It is our common position. We are in the same boat, and on the same side," president said.
Also, according to the Ukrainian leader, he does not require additional arguments in favor of the fact that today Ukrainian cinema needs support, so that high-quality and professional movies were shown on television and in cinemas, which would be available for Ukrainian audience.
According to Poroshenko, it is also crucial that the contemporary Ukrainian cinema contributed to the development of the Ukrainian language, fostered patriotism, telling about the heroism of Ukrainian heroes, who are now defending Ukraine.
Ukrainian President stressed that there are more than enough proponents of the law adoption in the Presidential Administration as well as in the government and parliament.
Participants of the meeting expressed their support for the president's position, which has been specified in its proposals for the improvement of the Law of Ukraine "On State Support of Cinematography in Ukraine" and increase of support to filmmakers.
