The works on the engineering and technical installation of the Ukrainian-Russian border will continue at the border with Russia on March 1, in the case of the favorable weather conditions. Oleg Slodobyan, the Assistant Head of the State Border Guard Service made such a statement as the press service of the department reported.
The project approved in May 2015 provides the creation of the “intellectual border” system on the Ukrainian-Russian part, which combines technical, engineering and fortification innovation and will provide the possibility of the maximal control over the state border line and prevention of its violation.
“At the moment, the end date of the implementation of the project is 2021. During 2015-2018, $48.3 million were allocated for the implementation of the project. About 30% of the Ukrainian-Russian border were equipped and installed and it is almost 340 km of the anti-vehicle moats, 250 km of the lateral communication routes; five border detachments were reequipped, enough team sites were equipped, the unique technical equipment for the remote monitoring was purchased and many other things were done for these funds,” Slobodyan said.
He also emphasized: “It should be understood that the State Border Guard Service does not implement the project on its own. The contractors, which participate in the project on the conditions defined by the law, do it”.
It is planned to allocate $14.8 million in 2019. It is also planned to deploy enough video-control complexes and alarm; install 50 km of the anti-vehicle moats, 9,5 km of the a chain-link fence, almost 48 km of the concertina-wire fence, pave 65,8 km of the lateral communication routes, equip 40 crossings across the routes through difficult parts (gullies, ditch and so on), fulfill works on the reconstruction of the rooms for the detachments for the border guards at three objects and number of other important works.
As we reported Ukraine intends to begin the sectoral project in the sphere of the integrated border management along with the international partners. The project will cost about 60 million euro.
Besides, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine created a budget institution Izmail Maritime Border Guard base of Ukraine’s Border Guard Service.
