The US Special Envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker assured that the US will not make the individual agreements towards the Donbas Conflict without the participation of Ukraine and the European countries. He reported this to DW.
‘It will definitely not take place. There are no such things and there will be no individual agreement over the head of Ukraine or behind the back of Europe’, Volker said.
According to him, he discussed the Ukrainian issue with the representatives of Germany and France before the meeting with the Russian presidential counselor Vladislav Surkov.
‘The US strictly made clear that we entirely support the peaceful process in the Normandy Format. We do not intend to become a part of it or head it’, Volker assured.
Moreover, he noted that the US also stand against the freezing of the issue of the return of Crimea to Ukraine.
‘I do not see any difference between the Russian invasion and the occupation of both Crimea and Donbas. Moreover, the Russians claimed about the annexation of Crimea, not only about the occupation but also about the conversion of it. I do not think that we should perceive or legitimate any of these actions’, Volker noted.
Kurt Volker was appointed at the position of the US Special Envoy to Ukraine on July 7, 2017. His aim is to coordinate the efforts of the US Department of State to settle the Donbas Conflict.
Earlier, he claimed about the necessity to withdraw the Russian troops from Donbas at the interview to the Russian mass media. Also, he noted that Ukraine is not ready yet to become the member of NATO.
