The American diplomatic mission noted that this document is a very important tool of the settlement of the armed Donbas Conflict through peaceful means.
‘We support the efforts of the Verkhovna Rada to continue the work of the special status that will allow settling the conflict through peaceful means’, the message said.
Earlier Vice Speaker of the Ukrainian parliament Oksana Syroid claimed that Germany insisted on the prolonging of the law on the special status of the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk.
The Verkhovna Rada can prolong the actions of the ‘Law on special order of the self-government in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk region’ for one year as Interfax-Ukraine reported.
‘Law on special order of the self-government in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk region’ came into force on October 20, 2014. According to it, the special order of the self-government is implemented for three years. The implementation of the law is provided by the Minsk Agreements since February 12, 2015, but it did not begin. The Ukrainian side insists that the elections in occupied Donbas are possible only after the withdrawal of the Russian troops and return of control over the border.
