US Embassy responds to militants' shelling of civilian infrastructure in Donbas

Representatives of the US diplomatic mission in Ukraine demanded an end to "Russian aggression in Ukraine, which threatens the civilian population, vital systems and infrastructure"

The US Embassy has expressed concern over the shelling of civilian infrastructure in Donbas by militants. The statement was posted on the Twitter account of the US diplomatic mission in Ukraine.

"We are concerned about reports of damage to critical civilian infrastructure in eastern Ukraine, especially water systems and hospitals. We demand an end to Russian aggression in Ukraine, which threatens civilians, vital systems and infrastructure," the US Embassy said.

On May 5, a fire broke out in the Popasna area (Luhansk region) as a result of shelling of the civilian sector carried out by militants. In addition, the city of Krasnohorivka, Donetsk region, came under fire on the night of May 4. The shelling damaged a hospital where 45 people are currently being treated.

Meanwhile, four Eastern European nationals, including two Russians, have pleaded guilty to disseminating malware for cyberattacks on institutions and individuals in the United States.

"Four Eastern European nationals have pleaded guilty to conspiring to engage in a Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organization (RICO) arising from their providing "bulletproof hosting" services between 2008 and 2015, which were used by cybercriminals to distribute malware and attack financial institutions and victims throughout the United States," the statement said.
