United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) reports that one million children suffered due to the fighting in Donbas. This was reported on the Facebook page of UNICEF Ukraine.
“At the time that the conflict in eastern Ukraine faces its fourth year, one million children are in need of emergency humanitarian aid – it’s almost twice as much than last year,” the message says.
It is noted that the number of the children who suffered increased on 420 thousand and it’s due to the conflict in Donbas. 19 thousand children in the area are under the threat to suffer from mines and armament, the organization reports. Another 12 thousand children live in the settlements that are being shelled at least once a month. Over 740 schools were ruined or damaged.
UNICEF calls the sides to abide by the Minsk agreements and respect the regulations of international humanitarian law, including those on unrestricted access to humanitarian aid.
Children's Fund also reported that they gather 31,3 million dollars to continue humanitarian support of the children and families that suffered as the result of the conflict. As of today, around 10% of the needed sum was received.
Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian youngsters consume less alcohol and drugs. The level of those vastly decreased in 2015, - UNICEF’s representative in Ukraine Giovanna Barberis.
