UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon welcomed the agreement on ceasefire from 24 December in Donbas. This was stated by the official representative of the secretary general Stefan Dyuzharrik, "Interfax" reports.
"The Secretary-General welcomes this achievement and hopes that it will put an end to the deadly violence along the contact line in eastern Ukraine. He expects all, and this will ensure the return of peace and the continuation of the Minsk process with a view to achieving tangible progress." - Dyuzharrik said.
As it was reported, on December 21 the Trilateral contact group on the situation in the east of Ukraine called for a complete ceasefire from 12 midnight on December 24 in Donbas.
Additionally, President Petro Poroshenko urged Russia to ensure the cease-fire in Donbas on holidays, as well as perform other Minsk obligations. President also confirmed Ukraine’s readiness to carry out this and other Minsk agreements.
