UN has documented more than 33 thousand facts of injuries and deaths in Donbas during the conflict. This was reported by Fiona Frazer, the Head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.
She noted that two escalation peaks were reported over the last three months: November-December 2016 and late January-beginning of February 2017.
"We have registered 130 casualties among civilian population during the conflict in the period of November 16, 2016 to February 15, 2017. 23 deaths and 107 injuries among them. 65% of these deaths and injuries were caused by shelling. Although the number of casualties decreased compared to the last reporting period, there’s still much more of them compared to the last year’s period," Frazer informed.
She added that parties to the conflict should do more to protect civilians, stop shelling and disengage.
Over 33 thousand 146 casualties and victims among civilians, Ukrainian military personnel and militants were recorded during the armed conflict in total.
