UN peacekeepers to be deployed in Donbas in case of Minsk, Normandy talks' fail

Foreign Minister of Ukraine Vadym Prystaiko stated that the peacekeepers in Donbas might be deployed only if the talks on the settlement of Donbas Conflict in Minsk and Normandy formats are not successful as Ukrinform reported.

“We always have plan B. One of such ideas is to offer the world society to help us with the mission on peace support… Even the mission, which should come to Ukraine and estimate whether it is possible, was not sent by the UN,” Prystaiko noted.

At the same time, the government of Ukraine does not intend to file the request for the deployment of the peacekeepers in the zone of the armed conflict in the east of the country.

According to Prystaiko, Ukrainian leadership expects the progress in the peace achievement in Donbas in Minsk and Normandy format of talks.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated he is afraid to deploy the peacekeeping mission in Donbas as it may provoke the development of Abkhazia and Transnistria scenario.

The deployment of the UN peacekeepers in Donbas will not be considered at the UN Security Council until the decision in Normandy or Minsk formats is ready.
