Security Service of Ukraine has identified 40 Ukrainians who served as part of the Russian private military company Wagner Group in Donbas. Most of them are in territory that Ukraine does not control: they are part of illegal armed formations in Donbas, and also take part in hostilities in Syria. This was reported by the head of the apparatus of the SBU head Ihor Guskov during a briefing, on air of 112 Ukraine TV channel.
"It’s more than 40 Ukrainians. Today, all the people in question, unfortunately, are in a territory that not controlled by Ukraine. It is primarily the territory of Syria where they participate in hostilities, and some of them are in the temporarily occupied territory Donetsk and Luhansk regions as part of illegal armed groups, "Guskov said.
As it was reported earlier Dmitriy Utkin, the retired colonel of the Russian army, widely known under his alias ‘Wagner’ did not come to Kirovohrad region, central Ukraine in 2015. Lt. Gen. Petro Tsyhykal, the head of Ukraine’s state border guard said this in his interview with censor.net outlet.
The official denied this information, admitting that Utkin was born in Smolino town; this is where his mother lives. ‘A man with such last name actually came there; however, we and the Security Service of Ukraine checked this information, and it turned out it was quite a different man,’ Tsyhykal said.
Commenting on the reporter’s remark about local residents seeing the same man who was born in Smolino, the official said the neighbors apparently spread this information for reporters.
