Ukrainian sailor from Crimea detained for deserting in Kherson

The detainee can get up to five years imprisonment if the court finds him guilty

One Ukrainian soldier was detained in Kherson region, he is suspected of deserting Ukrainian army and changing side to the aggressor one after the Crimea annexation. The National Police of Crimea reports this.

The police officers of the Criminal police of Crime found a serviceman, who is suspected of siding with the occupant state.

“34 years old man was serving in the Ukrainian Navy of Ukraine. After the occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, he sided with the aggressor, where he was serving by the contract,” the report said.

The man was transferred to the military prosecutor office of the Southern region in Odesa post. He is suspected under article 408 part 2 (Deserting) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

In case of finding his guilt, he can get up to five years imprisonment.    

Earlier, Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained Ukrainian serviceman who deserted from Ukraine’s Armed Forces with the intention to serve in the Russian Army. 

The deserter was hiding in one of the apartments in Zaporizhia city. He had weapons and falsified documents that hide his involvement in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) in Donbas.
