Russia-backed militants of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) transferred Igor Kozlovskiy, the Ukrainian religious studies scholar from Donetsk to Mykytivska penitentiary #87 in Gorlivka despite the demands of the human rights defenders. Denys Kozlovskiy, his nephew reported this, according to Ukrinform.

‘It came to our knowledge that he was transferred to the Mykytivska penitentiary #87 for the execution of the punishment’, the nephew said.

However, Denys Kozlovskiy is unaware about the incarceration conditions of his uncle. Probably, he is put in quarantine.

The so-called courts martial of DPR sentenced  Igor Kozlovskiy, the famous Ukrainian religious studies scholar to prison in the beginning of May.

Human Rights Watch appealed to the Russia-backed militants with demands to set Kozlovskiy free as soon as possible.

Igor Kozlovskiy is the famous Ukrainian scientist, candidate of historical sciences. He taught the Religion Studies at Donetsk National Technical University and was the head of the Donetsk Department of the Ukrainian Association of the Religious Studies Scholars.

Kozlovskiy had no possibility to leave Donetsk after the beginning of the war because he took care of his paralyzed son. The Russia-backed militants detained him and locked him up in the basement. The scientist was far from the policy and did not take part in the combat actions due to his age and state of health. According to his son, Igor Koslovskiy could get the attention of the self-claimed authorities’ during the partaking in the interreligious prayerful marathon For Unity and Peace in Ukraine. It took place in March-October 2014 and Kozlovskiy was noticed with the Ukrainian flag there.

Igor Kozlovskiy is 63 and he has problems with health. Earlier it was reported that Igor Koslovskiy, the Ukrainian religious studies scholar detained in DPR is included to the list of the prisoners’ exchange.
