“Why Javelin was so important? Because this is a very modern anti-tank weapon, as the saying goes, shoot and forget – the missile will find the Russian tank and destroy it. And not a single shot was made from Javelin on the front yet,” the President says.
According to him, since it became known that the Ukrainians have Javelins on their possession, Russian tank crewmen renounce tank rides and they “have simply ceased tank fire.”
“It’s been a year since it became known that Ukrainian possess Javelins, Russian tanks crew members refuse to send tanks on the contact line. Just imagine, how many lives we saved when we bought Javelins,” the President underlined.
As it was reported earlier, the U.S. State Department announced the Javelin anti-tank missile system delivery to Ukraine.
Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's military aggression in the spring of 2014 was negotiating with the United States on the supply of lethal weapons. Previously, Washington supplied Kiev with only non-lethal assistance (including armored Humvee cars, RQ-11B Raven drones, and counterbattery radars) and helped in the training of Ukrainian servicemen.
Javelin is the American man-portable missile launchers. It is designed to take down the enemy ground vehicles, drones and helicopters. The price of one unit, including the payload of six missiles, makes 1.3 million U.S. dollars.
