The Ukrainian Congressional Committee of America (UCCA) initiated a one-day hunger strike action on the eve of the FIFA world cup in Russia in support of Oleg Sentsov's demands to release Kremlin’s political prisoners. This was stated in an official letter of the UCCA.
"The Ukrainian Congressional Committee of America (UCCA), the largest representation of 1.5 million Americans of Ukrainian descent, calls upon the Ukrainian-American community and our friends around the world, to express their solidarity with Oleg Sentsov by participating in a one-day hunger strike this Wednesday, June 13 , on the eve of the FIFA World Cup in Russia," the statement said.
As it was reported earlier, doctors examined Ukrainian director and political prisoner Oleg Sentsov who is now in Russian prison. This was reported by the press service of the regional department of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN). A series of clinical and instrumental examinations were conducted during the consultation of the doctors of the city hospital in Labytnanga, and recommendations were given "for further treating of the patient."
Illegally sentenced to 20 years in prison in Russia, Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov announced an unlimited hunger strike on May 14. His main requirement is to release all Ukrainians, political prisoners who are in Russian prisons.
Ukrainians Kolchenko and Sentsov were detained by special services of the Russian Federation in May 2014 in Crimea. They were accused of organizing terrorist attacks on the peninsula. In the summer of 2015 Kolchenko was sentenced to 10 years in a strict-regime colony, Sentsov - 20 years. Both deny their guilt.
