Ukrainian court sentences two 'DNR' tankmen to 10 years in prison

Two servicemen of the self-styled "Donetsk People's Republic' are sentenced to ten years behind the bars.

According to the prosecutor's office in Donetsk region, the two men, aged 34 and 39, joined the illegal armed formation in September 2014. They guarded the checkpoint in Novoazovsk, Donetsk region. Then, one of them was trained as a tank commander in Russia; after he completed the training course, he came back to the occupied part of Donetsk region.

In autumn 2014, the fighters illegally brought tanks and ammunition to the combat area in Donbas. They were also involved in many specific attacks on positions of Ukrainian forces in Donbas, causing the damage to infrastructure and civilian deaths. 

The tankmen were arrested in September 2015. The Ukrainian court charged them with membership in illegal armed formations and waging the aggressive war against Ukraine.
