The Ukrainian fighter who deceased in Donbas combat zone on Thursday was born in Zelenodolsk, Dnipropetrovsk region, southeastern Ukraine. His name was Oleksiy Stryzhak. The town council of Zelenodolsk reported this on Facebook.
"Our countryman, serviceman Oleksiy Volodymyrovych Stryzhak deceased in the Joint Forces Operation zone on September 30, defending his motherland. He was born in 1982. Oleksiy's heart stopped. But heroes never die! They'll live as long as we remember them!", reads the message.
Stryzhak will be buried on Saturday, October 2.
Earlier, a militant from the so-called "Luhansk People’s Republic" in Donbas voluntarily surrendered at the position of one of the mechanized brigades of Ukraine's Armed Forces. This was reported by the press service of the JFO.
“We were just on combat duty and watching out to prevent enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group from passing through. We saw that some unknown person was moving in the direction of our positions. Watching closely, we allowed the person as close as possible. In a few minutes, we realized that this was a combatant with a weapon. When he came close to our observer, we quickly disarmed him and immediately reported to our commander," Ukrainian soldiers reported.
