Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry demands that Russian Federation allows Ukrainian consul to visit the citizens illegally detained in Russia, including Oleh Sentsov, Oleksandr Kolchenko and others. This statement was published by the ministry press service.

“Ukrainian Foreign Ministry strongly protests against repeated refusal of Russian side to grant the consul of Ukraine permission to visit the citizens of Ukraine illegally detained in the Russian Federation, namely Oleh Sentsov, Oleksandr Kolchenko, Rustem Vaitov, Ruslan Zeytullaev and Ferat Sayfullaev. Intentional disregard of the consul's right to visit compatriots in penitentiary institutions indicates the intention of Russian side to hide facts of rights violation and political essence of cases against Ukrainian citizens,” the message says.

The ministry stressed that Russia by obstructing consular access to illegally detained persons, violates international obligations, as well as the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963 and the Consular Convention between Ukraine and the Russian Federation of 1993.
