Ukraine's Border Guards apprehend Russian mercenary in Donetsk region

Workers of the State Border Guard of Ukraine detained a man who turned out to be a Russian militant. The press office of the State Border Guard reported that on June 23. 

The man was apprehended next to Novotroitske checkpoint, actually at Berezove checkpoint. The mercenary tried to escape, but he failed.

"The detained man said he was on his way to his position and accidentally approached the checkpoint of Joint Forces. The militant said that he voluntarily joined the service with illegal armed formations in 2018. He admitted that he had served on the disengagement line, as a crew member of ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun", the message said.

The detainee carried the passport of so-called Donetsk People's Republic, a military ID card, and military uniforms that were packed in his bag.

The man is now suspected of creating a terrorist group or organization.
