Ukraine will urge the world community to work actively on the deployment of UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas conflict area. This was stated in the address of Ukraine’s Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman on International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, reports the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.
“Unfortunately, the question of UN peacekeepers is actual for our country as well. The military, informational, cyber and economic aggression of Russia’s ruling regime, long-lasting hostilities in the east of our country make us declare the necessity of deploying the peacekeeping mission in some areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions,” the address says.
According to Groysman, the situation is complicated by the fact that in order to deploy peacekeepers in Donbas, the approval of the aggressor-state in the UN Security Council is needed.
“However, Ukraine is determined to continue standing on its position. We will urge the world community to work in this direction actively, as every day of delay costs us the lives of our defenders," the prime minister said.
Groysman is convinced that the UN peacekeeping mission must have broad powers to achieve its goals and be deployed throughout the conflict zone, including the uncontrolled section of the Russian-Ukrainian border.
"I am convinced that with the support of the international community and due to the courage of our fighters, we are able to bring peace to Ukraine and restore the country's territorial integrity," the prime minister said.
In its turn, the press service of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that at present more than 30 military servicemen of Ukraine’s Armed Forces have died, carrying out a high peacekeeping mission and defending UN goals and principles.
As it was reported earlier, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will officially visit Ukraine on May 29-30. According to the message, the politicians will discuss the issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as ways of Germany’s further support for Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Special attention will be paid to the situation in Donbas and the question of deploying the UN peacekeeping mission in the conflict zone.
