Ukraine starts to pay compensations to released POWs

The payments have been started last week

The Ukrainian citizens released from the captivity of the pro-Russian militants of Donbas started to receive the compensations. Iryna Kalupakham the Head of IPDs and Humanitarian Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs claimed this as Radio Liberty reported.

She claimed that the financial aid will be paid to all released in the near future.

“It is not a situation when everybody will get the aid in one day. The released appealed to us in different times: a month earlier, a month later,” she said and emphasized that the issue is not about the half of a year and all payments will be made within a month.

The released note that they had an urgent need in the financial aid during the first months after the release when a lot of them faced the absence of the funds, work and even accommodation, however, they had to wait for these compensations for ha half of a year.

Earlier the local budgets of Donetsk, Luhansk and Lviv regions paid the compensations to the releases Ukrainians.

The Social Policy Ministry deals with the payments at the state level, however, the funds are under control of the Ministry of Temporarily Occupied Territories and IDPs.

As we reported earlier, the last big exchange of prisoners took place in Donbas on Dec. 27. Then, 73 Ukrainians were released in exchange for 233 militants. The parties discussed the possibility of the next one and submitted the lists of individuals on Jan. 18 in Minsk.
