Today, on February 13, Ukraine paid another $107 thousand to "Popasna water canal" public utility company for water supply to the uncontrolled territories of Luhansk region in January 2017. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry for the occupied territories.
"Popasna water canal" public utility company was already paid $147 thousand on February 6 and 8. Thus, water charges for Luhansk territory uncontrolled by Ukrainian government amounts to $254 thousand.
The payment for water supply to the territories uncontrolled by Ukrainian authorities is carried out through mechanism agreed on during Trilateral contact group meeting in Minsk.
It is noteworthy that Popasna water canal is a water supplier for 80 thousand Luhansk region residents, who live in controlled Ukrainian territory, as well as 1.2 million people inhabiting uncontrolled territory in Luhansk region.
On December 1, 2016, the power supply of Popasna water canal, which provided water to the occupied areas of Luhansk, was halted.
"LPR" did not pay for the water, giving rise to the debt to "Luhansk energy union" for consumed energy.
Earlier, the Red Cross was paying for "LPR", but they stopped financing from December 1.
