Disengaging troops and vehicles on the entire division line in Donbas would be unreasonable, as it could freeze the conflict. Andriy Zahorodniuk, the Defense Minister of Ukraine said that in an interview with Interfax news agency.
"We stand against the disengagement all over the line, because such way is a wrong one, and it contradicts the very nature of Minsk agreements. And how could one conduct a division for years? It woud end up in a frozen conflict", Zahorodniuk said.
The overall length of the division line in Donbas makes 410 km.
Ukraine definitely rejects the idea of freezing the conflict, Zahorodniuk added. In that case, it would be impossible to insist on reclaiming the occupied territories, and the international community would begin lobbying the canceling of sanctions. This kind of situation could last for years, the Minister said.
According to him, if Minsk agreements are observed then it makes no sense to disengage forces all over the division line. "This is a conflict that was created arteficially in 2014. It is supposed to end the way it started", Zahorodniuk concluded.
