The Ukrainian side is ready to transfer “certain areas of the Donetsk region” the number of people they will choose, while Kyiv will insist on the release of the maximum number of Ukrainians. This was reported by the representative of Ukraine in the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral contact group, the vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Gerashchenko, on her Facebook page.
"We insist on the release of the maximum number of hostages before the Christmas holidays. Today “Donetsk authorities” stated that they are holding 42 Ukrainians. We immediately offered to transfer them 228 of those citizens (in cases where it is permitted under the law and the legal framework), which they requested for in order to immediately release 42 Ukrainian heroes, civil, military. Then we will work on search and release of all remaining prisoners. Response was given, they are ready to release only 8 Ukrainian prisoners,” she wrote.
At the same time, Gerashchenko said that the situation with the hostages in the Luhansk region (certain areas of the Luhansk region) is more difficult.
As for the Luhansk region, the situation is more complicated - they confirm the presence of only 6 detainees, but militants demand amnesty and release for more than 440 people. These are very complex negotiations, but we should seek compromise, the representative of the humanitarian subgroup said.
Gerashchenko also said that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was able to get letters to relatives from 31 hostages held in the occupied territories.
