Ukraine is ready for the exchange of the prisoners on the request of the authorities of the occupied territories of Donbas to release the confirmed Ukrainians. Iryna Gerashchenko, the representative of Ukraine at the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group on Donbas reported this at Facebook.
According to Gerashchenko, the humanitarian subgroup demanded to begin the process of the prisoner’s exchange after the 14-months hiatus.
‘We are ready to transfer all people according to the Ukrainian legislation to return all confirmed Ukrainians. But we will not blackmail and we cannot release people who do not fall under the Minsk Agreements such as riot police officers that are suspected of the murder of Heavenly Hundred Heroes’, she said.
Also, Gerashchenko reported to 112 Ukraine that it is expected that the issue of the prisoners’ exchange will be solved until the New Year despite all difficulties. Moreover, she claimed that Ukraine is ready to transfer more than 300 people requested by the authorities of the occupied territories of Donbas to release 88 Ukrainians.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin promised to discuss the issue of exchanging Donbas detainees with the commanders of the Russia-backed militants in Donbas on November 15. It is noted that it was pro-Russian Ukrainian politician Viktor Medvedchuk who addressed President Putin on the issue.
