The head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Hrytsak has met with the US State Department's Special Envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker and US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch. During the meeting, Hrytsak gave Volker the evidence of the involvement of Russian Federation military personnel in a large-scale hybrid aggression in Donbas, as the SBU press service reported.
"In the course of dialogue between the US representatives, another evidence of the involvement of Russian servicemen in crimes against humanity on the territory of Ukraine was provided, in particular, the shelling of Mariupol and Volnovakha, which killed 48 Ukrainian citizens," the statement said.
It is noted that Hrytsak also drew the attention of foreign partners to the "Russia’s blocking the exchange of hostages, which the Russian Federation uses for political pressure on the Ukrainian authorities."
"Foreign partners expressed their interest in continuing the dialogue with the Security Service of Ukraine, and also assured Ukraine in continued support for restoring territorial integrity and countering the Russian aggressor," added the SBU.
As it was reported earlier, on January 13, 2015, pro-Russia mercenaries attacked a Ukrainian outpost near Volnovakha in Donetsk region. They used Grad, Russian-made multiple missile launch systems. One of the missiles hit a passenger bus with 30 people aboard. 12 of them died, the rest received injuries of various degrees of severity.
The government immediately defined the Volnovakha tragedy as a terrorist act.
