Two 'DNR' terrorists suspected of torturing Ukrainian military in Donbas

Two members of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic ("DNR") are notified of suspicion of tortures of the Ukrainian military in the Donbas conflict zone. The two citizens of Ukraine are charged with violation of laws and customs of war. Press service of the Prosecutor's Office reported that on March 29.

According to the investigation, one of the suspects served as a prison guard in the Donetsk region in April 2014 through February 2015. The prison was established in the building of the regional department of the Security Service of Ukraine. He mistreated the captured Ukrainian fighters who served with a territorial defense battalion. The culprit used to beat them up, inflicting severe injuries, specifically broken ribs. He tortured them to make them testify against themselves; the prisoners were supposed to admit military crimes that they actually never committed.

The second suspect did not provide due hygiene conditions for the prisoners; he served in a different prison, located in the remand centre of local unit of Chief Department of Ukraine's Interior Ministry in Snizhne, Donetsk region. The captives were held in poor sanitary conditions; they suffered from malnutrition.

On March 26, four servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine passed away in the shelling that took place near Shumy in Donbas combat zone; two more were wounded.
