The meeting of the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov and the Special Envoy of Japan to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi took place on July 12. The sides discussed the draft law on the de-occupation of Donbas at the meeting. The press service of the NSDC reported this.

Also, the sides discussed the issue of the profound cooperation between our countries in the security and defense spheres at the meeting. ‘We appreciate the support of Japan in the reformation of the security and defense system of Ukraine’, Turchynov said.

The sides paid special attention to the crisis in the Eastern part of Ukraine that arose as the result of the hybrid aggression of Russia against Ukraine and the draft law ‘The peculiarities of the state policy on the restoration of the state sovereignty of Ukraine under the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions’.

‘Our task is to provide the effective defense of our country’, Turchynov emphasized and added that the main aim of this law is to strengthen the format of the opposition against hybrid aggression, the defense of the citizens who are under the occupation and release of the occupied territories.

Shigeki Sumi noted that Japan is also interested in profound cooperation between our countries. ‘Ukraine for us is the important partner and we are interested in developing the cooperation in all spheres’, he noted.

The NSDC worked out the draft law on the return of the state sovereignty under the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. It is planned to submit the draft law to the Verkhovna Rada in September after the consultation with the strategic partners of Ukraine.
