The statements of Russian Federation about the "Ukrainian internal conflict" and its non-involvement in occupation of Ukraine’s territories are not true. German Permanent Representative to the UN Christoph Heusgen said this at the meeting of the UN Security Council, convened at the request of the Russian Federation, as the Interfax agency reports.
“I just listened to Vasily (Russia's Permanent Representative to UN Vasily Nebenzya —112.international) And I got the impression that Ukraine attacked Russia, and not Russia attacked Ukraine,” he said at the beginning of his speech in response to Nebenzya’s remarks.
Russia's Permanent Representative to UN Vasily Nebenzya in his speech has traditionally accused official Kyiv of sabotaging the implementation of Minsk agreements, organizing provocations, creating a humanitarian catastrophe in Donbas, etc.
In response to this, German diplomat stated that Russian claims about the alleged "internal conflict" in Ukraine were lies.
“Our Russian friends have been talking for years, and Vasily repeated it again, that “there is an internal conflict over a change of government in Ukraine.” We know that in reality, it was a Russian invasion. The Russian military was directly involved in the occupation of Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk” Heusgen said.
German diplomat noted that attempts of Russian representatives to distance themselves and present themselves as unrelated to what happened in 2014 in Crimea and Donbas were later leveled by public recognition by Russian President Vladimir Putin that he had ordered the special services to seize the Crimea on February 20, 2014.
"Crimea is still occupied, Donbas is still occupied. And all this with the help of the myth about "green men", or that someone there "took the fate in their hands"? No, it was the Russian military. In 2014-2015 it became even clearer,” he said.
Christoph Heusgen also drew attention to the numerous attempts by the Russian authorities to conceal the truth about the participation of the Russian military in battles against the Ukrainian army in Donbas.
As it was reported earlier, the UN Security Council is holding a session On February 12, at 3 p.m. (10 p.m. Kyiv time) in New York.
