The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus commented on the statement of Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of Kazakhstan on the possibility to search for the alternative place for the negotiations on Ukraine. Vladimir Makei, the Belarusian Foreign Minister claimed that Belarus did not suggest itself be a platform for the talks but the leaders of the Normandy Format appealed to Alexandr Lukashenko with the proper request.
'Unlike everybody else, Belarus does not thirst for the credit of the peacekeeper. But this conflict is in our family, in our region and we vitally interested in its settlement. We are not the partakers of the negotiations but the Belarusian President offered the different variants for the solution of the crisis for many times, including the readiness to provide the control of the Ukrainian-Russian border and contact line by the Belarusian peacekeepers', Makei noted.
He doubts that the results depend on the place of the negotiations.
'The talks on Ukraine can be replaced even to the Antarctic if there is confidence in their success. It is necessary that all sides of the conflict and not-involved but interested states aim to stop the bloodletting to make such confidence to appear', he claimed.
As we reported earlier US President Donald Trump suggested to move the Minsk talks on resolving the conflict in Ukraine someplace else and discussed it with President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. 'We discussed the fact that Minsk-1 has stumped, and a Minsk-2 is needed' He (Donald Trump) says: 'Let’s hold it someplace else'. I say “Let’s do it,” Nazarbayev said, noting that originally the talks should be held in Kazakhstan.
