Security Service of Ukraine, the SBU, named those behind the terrorist attack on a civilian bus in Volnovakha, Donetsk region that occurred in January 2015. These are Anatoliy Sinelnikov, the colonel of the Russian Armed Forces, and Yuriy Shpakov, Ukrainian citizen who serves as the commander of artillery unit that delivered the actual attack.

‘The evidence let us serve these persons with charge papers. Shpakov, the self-proclaimed ‘military commandant of Dokuchaivsk’ (Donetsk region), chaired the unit that fired the fatal shots. Sinelnikov, in turn, commanded the 5th Army Brigade; he was the one who gave orders to Shpakov,’ said Vitaliy Mayakov, deputy head of the investigations department of the SBU.

He added that Shpakov once served in Ukraine’s Armed Forces and currently lives in Donetsk. The evidence showed that two years ago, when the attack occurred, he was on active duty, but now he is not.

The charge papers were sent to the accused by mail.
