As of 5 p.m. Sunday, pyrotechnical units of Ukraine's State Emergency Service have spotted 12 explosive items around the entry-exit checkpoint in Novotroitske, Donetsk region. Mykola Chechotkin, the head of the government agency posted this on Facebook.
"The pyrotechnical units of State Emergency Service discovered already 12 explosive items: a 120 mm mortar mine, a 23 mm artillery shell, five hand grenades and a fragment of a mortar mine", Chechotkin wrote.
The official added that the demolition experts have been searching the area for more explosives that are possibly there.
Earlier on July 21, the Ukrainian military reported that the area was mined. Local crews of demolition experts, chemical and biological protection were called in.
On July 19, Ukrainian soldier Bohdan Bigus lost his life upon walking on a tripwire.
