Russian Parliament State Duma is working out the ways to relieve Crimeans of paying their debts to Ukrainian banks. On Friday, the Duma adopted in the second reading amendments to the law on the repayment of debts of Crimeans to Ukrainian banks, reports Kommersant.

“According to the law, only Russian companies accredited under the Depositors Protection Fund that acquired debts from Ukrainian banks can demand payment of the debts. At the moment, four companies are accredited to the DPF, they bought more than 16 million dollars of debt of Crimeans before Ukrainian banks,” the message says.

The Fund itself will be under the control of pro-Russian occupation authorities in Crimea. At the same time, Deposit Insurance Agency of Russia that belongs to DPF has to transfer 25 million dollars of unencumbered balance to the fund.

"Regional project" is already being prepared in Crimea and Sevastopol. According to the agency, the document will state that the debt or part of the debt up to 84,000 dollars has to be cancelled unconditionally. Thus, the overwhelming majority of Crimean citizens and individual entrepreneurs will receive forgiveness from Ukrainian loans, and companies will be able to significantly reduce their debts.

The companies that bought Crimeans’ debts before Ukrainian banks were focused primarily on retail customers, whose debts fall within 84,000 dollars.
