The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, stated that not a single citizen of Russian Federation was extradited during the exchange of prisoners with the "authorities" of Donbas occupied territories. He said this in a commentary to Country agency at the Boryspil airport after the landing of planes with liberated Ukrainian hostages.

According to the head of the state, Russians who are held in Ukrainian prisons were not given out intentionally - they are to be exchanged for those Ukrainians who are detained in Russian prisons.

"More efforts will be put to draw our citizens from Russian prisons, from the occupied Crimea. And for this reason we have not returned a single Russian today, and more than 15 Russian citizens who are staying in our prisons should be used to return Sushchenko, Sentsov, Kolchenko, Klykh, Karpyuk and many others home," the president said.

As it was reported earlier for more than a year Ukraine has been expecting for this exchange. Negotiations have been often disrupted, militants agreed to conduct the exchange and then refused.

And on the eve of the New Year, the agreement on the exchange of hostages between Ukraine and representatives of the "LPR" and "DPR" has finally succeeded.

The exchange of prisoners took place on December 27. The exchange started on Wednesday noon at Mayorske checkpoint.
