Crimean Tatars expect reinforcement of repression by the occupation authorities after making public the issue of their occupation in the court in Hague. This was stated by the chairman of the Central Election Commission of Crimean Tatar people Zair Smedlyaev in a commentary to the TV channel 112 Ukraine.

According to Smedlyaev, Russia is trying to isolate  Tatars in order not to let them declare their problems.

"There were attempts to create some pro-Russian governmental structures that allegedly will say in appeals to the UN on their behalf, that Crimean Tatars have no problems. So  the repressions against members of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people will begin. Someone would be declared an extremist, someone a terrorist, someone will be imprisoned," Smedlyaev said.

Because of the ban of Mejlis by the Russian authorities, the participants even had to pay a fine for the meeting to congratulate the chairman of the Mejlis Refat Chubarov.

"For today, the activities of the Mejlis in the territory of Crimea are suspended and all its activities are conducted now on the mainland of Ukraine," Smedlyaev said.
