Russia prepared draft resolution for the UNSC about peacekeepers in Donbas
The resolution also reads that the mission personnel should be agreed with the representatives of Kyiv and the occupied Luhansk and Donetsk
Russia prepared a draft resolution for the UN Security Council to send the UN peacekeepers to the East of Ukraine to provide security for the OSCE observers. This is stated in the draft resolution by the Russian Federation, the TASS correspondent familiarized himself with the copy of the document.
The document offers to “set a UN Mission on securing the OSCE SMM in the South-East of Ukraine for a six moth term after complete withdrawal of personnel and military equipment from the actual contact line with a head of the mission to report directly to the General Secretary”.
The text of the resolution also reads that the mission personnel should be agreed with the representatives of Kyiv and the occupied Luhansk and Donetsk.
As it was reported earlier Russian representative to UN said sending peacekeepers to Donbas would jeopardize Minsk agreements. The diplomat emphasized that there are only two formats of settling the situation in Donbas.
The Ukrainian side, however, states that the Minsk agreements haven’t resulted in anything over the past three years, which is why Ukraine’s president is to raise issue of bringing the UN peacekeepers to Donbas at the next UN General Assembly session.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry took into account the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the possibility of deploying UN peacekeepers to the Donbas and believes that the deployment of UN peacekeeping mission can contribute to the restoration of peace and security in the east of Ukraine.
Later, on September 11, President of Russia Vladimir Putin noted his readiness to deploy UN peacekeepers not only along the contact line in the Donbas conflict zone, but also “in other places, where the SMM OSCE conducts their inspection trips”.
Ukraine's ex-foreign minister Volodymyr Ohryzko believes Russia is trying to legalize occupation of Donbas.
