The Russian Federation in spring of 2014 planned to invade the mainland of Ukraine without resistance, took control of the south and east of the state and seized Kyiv after having occupied the Crimea. This was stated by the Secretary of Ukraine’s Defense and Security Council Oleksandr Turchynov during the questioning as a witness from prosecution side in Obolonsky court on the case of the former president Viktor Yanukovych. This was broadcasted by 112 Ukraine TV channel.

According to him, since the seizure of the building of Crimean Council of Ministers and the Parliament, an active phase of the occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea began. At the same time, according to the reports of Ukrainian intelligence and foreign partners, the concentration of Russian Army forces began on the northern and eastern borders of Ukraine in order to prepare an invasion to the mainland of Ukraine.

"Russian Parliament agreed with President Putin to use the Russian Armed Forces on the territory of Ukraine and according to plans of Russian military and political leaders, the occupation of Crimea and disarmament of the Ukrainian units were to end on March 1. They aimed, having occupied Crimea, provoking the deaths of civilians in the Crimea, to use the chaos and lack of governance to invade Ukraine without resistance and take control over the south and east of the country and over Kyiv to restore by force the power of the puppet regime of Yanukovych," Turchynov said.

According to the Defense Council secretary, the Russian Federation planned an invasion to Ukraine without resistance.

As it was reported earlier Russian leader Vladimir Putin decided to annex Crimea at the drop of a hat on February 23, 2014; Ilya Ponomarev, the former lawmaker from the Russian State Duma said that at a session of Obolon district court in Kyiv, as the jury considered the case of ex-president Viktor Yanukovych.

Crimea was annexed by Russia by the illegal referendum held in March 2014. Earlier the Russian militaries that stayed there without any marking conquered all the force and state bodies of strategic military objects and building. The results of the referendum were not recognized by Ukraine and the world society. The number of the European and world countries, including Ukraine imposed the economic sanctions against Russia.
