Russia hints at the possibility of exchanging two Ukrainian border guards for Russian FSB border guards, but has not yet made an official offer. Oleh Slobodyan, assistant head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine stated this in his commentary for 112.ua.
According to him, the Russian side drags out the transfer of Ukrainian border guards and encourages to exchange them for two border guards of the Russian FSB, detained in June this year on the administrative border with the Crimea.
"We have not yet received any proposals from the Russian side on how they see solution to this problem and when they plan to return us our servicemen. At the same time, the nature of actions of Russian special services and border guards, like delaying the transfer of our servicemen, not letting consuls, family, - this indicates that this is not happening without reason. Most likely, the Russians are gradually leading us to the idea and to the proposal from which we started, - to exchange our servicemen for two Russian border guards, whom we detained on administrative border with the temporarily occupied Crimea, "he said.
Slobodyan added that three weeks after the detention, the Ukrainian side does not have information about the whereabouts of the border guards and their state of health.
As it was reported earlier two officers of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine disappeared on October 3 in Sumy region near the border with Russia. The local prosecutor’s office opened the criminal investigation.
Later Russia officially confirmed the detention of two officers of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine that earlier disappeared near the border with Russia. First Deputy of State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Vasyl Servatyuk claimed this.
‘Russian side informed that it detained two Ukrainian citizens who claimed that they are the officers of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine’, he said.
