The journalist Stanyslav Aseev (Stanyslav Vasin) is on the territory of occupied Donetsk where he was detained. “General Prosecutor's Office of the DNR” is controlling the criminal case opened against him. This was stated in the letter of Russian Union of Journalists Secretary Timur Shafir to the Chairman of Ukraine’s National Union of Journalists Serhiy Tomilenko, according to the website of the latter.
"After the last meeting under the OSCE auspices on June 19-20 where a joint statement on journalist Aseev was adopted, we used all the opportunities to clarify the situation regarding his whereabouts," the letter says.
It is also reported that Militants suspect the journalist of “crimes provided by “Criminal code of the DNR.”
As it was reported earlier “DNR” militants officially confirmed that a missing journalist Stanyslav Aseev (Stanyslav Vasin – pseudonym) was detained in “DNR.”
Aseev is accused of espionage as all journalists arrested earlier. He can be imprisoned for 12-14 years. UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine was searching for missing Aseev in the occupied territories.
Stanyslav Aseev is 27 years old. During the occupation of Donetsk by the “DNR” militants he did not leave the city and was publishing his articles in the Ukrainian media under pseudonym Vasin.
Starting from June the contact with journalist was lost. Human right protection organization Human Rights Watch received information on July 14 that Aseev was captured by “DNR” terrorists.
