Russia and the occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions (ORDLO) deny access for the International Committee of the Red Cross to the hostages kept on the occupied territories. Iryna Gerashchenko, the humanitarian sub-group of the Trilateral Contact Group representative, announced that on her Facebook page.

"ICRC has a hundred-year experience in hostage release and skip tracing, the most odious and dictator regimes allowed this organization to enter their prisons, namely Hussein and Gaddafi, ICRC is working in Syria at the moment, delivering humanitarian aid for the civilian citizens. The only people who do not allow ICRC and skip tracing mission to enter prisons are the Russian Federation and the ORDLO. Despite all the promises of Putin on all the Normandy talks, despite the urges of all world leaders,” states Gerashchenko.

According to her Ukraine has repeatedly called to engage the International Committee of the Red Cross as a non-political, neutral mission to depoliticize the hostage release process. Apart from that the Ukrainian side hands the updates casualty lists to the SBU, the OSCE, the Russian Federation and ORDLO every second week.

Earlier the Foreign Ministers of the four Normandy format countries agreed on providing access of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) members to the prisoners held now in Donbas territory.
