Rescuers defused 900 explosives in Donbas Conflict zone last week

The pyrotechnic experts of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine found and defused 900 explosive items in Donbas, as the Joint Forces Operation Headquarters reported on Facebook.

“Only during the last week, the pyrotechnic experts of the Emergency Service from the Joint Forces held the works on the searching and cleared the territories 64 times. Totally, they examined 51 hectares of the territory; found and defused 900 explosive items," the message said.

It is noted that the pyrotechnic experts were involved 3,564 times since the beginning of Donbas Conflict. They searched 5,112 hectares of the territory and 16,29 hectares of waters. 20,423 explosive items were found and defused.

As we reported, at least 977 civilians have been killed by mines since the outbreak of hostilities in Donbas. 

Moreover, the Ukrainian military found and defused over 40 mines during the resettlement of their front lines near Mariinka.

Earlier, the UN reported that the territory of Donbas is one of the most mined regions in the world, and Ukraine ranks first in the world in the death toll due to mine explosions.

Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories Vadym Chernysh argued that it was pointless to take steps to demine the territory until the end of hostilities in Donbas.
