Teams of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will act as a neutral mediator during the exchange of prisoners between Kyiv and temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, so that all Ukrainians and released detainees can safely meet their families. This was reported by the ICRC’s press service.
The additional measures will be provided for those who release the detainees, the released prisoners themselves, those who meet them and members of the Red Cross. The purpose of these activities is to create safe conditions and reduce the risk of getting infected with coronavirus for them and their loved ones.
The ICRC noted the importance of continuing the release of detainees during the pandemic of COVID-19. According to it, the process was conducted in compliance with basic humanitarian standards for the safety of released persons.
As we reported earlier, militants of Luhansk People’s Republic will hand over 11 captive persons to Ukraine as part of a swap on April 16.
As of now, Donbas militants have released nine Ukrainian citizens.
