President of Russia Vladimir Putin urged President of France Emmanuel Macron to support the offer of Russia to deploy the UN peacekeepers for assistance in the security of the OSCE SMM during the phone call. The press service of Kremlin reported this.
'Vladimir Putin urged Emmanuel Macron to support the Russian initiative on the deployment of the UN mission for assistance in the security of the OSCE SMM at the South-East of Ukraine', the message said.
Moreover, the leaders discussed the observation of the school ceasefire regime in Donbas.
'The importance of the complete and rigorous observance of the reached agreements by the conflict's sides is noted, including the so-called school ceasefire regime agreed in the Trilateral Contact Group and supported by the leaders of Normandy Four', Kremlin reported.
Initially Putin claimed that UN peacekeepers should stay at the demarcation line. Ukraine representative in Minsk and First Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Gerashchenko claimed that it is impossible to talk about the peacekeepers only among the demarcation line.
Later the Russian President expressed the readiness to make the amendments to the offered resolution project of the UN Security Council and mission's function at the conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He said that it is possible to implement the provision of the security for the OSCE SMM at all places where the SMM holds the inspection trips.
Permanent Representative of Ukraine at UN Volodymyr Elchenko noted that the UN peacekeeping mission should be placed at the Russian-Ukrainian border and the participation of the Russian representative is impossible in it.
Representative of Ukraine at Minsk Talks Leonid Kuchma thinks that Russian offer to deploy UN peacekeepers in Donbas is the mockery over Ukraine. According to him, the deployment of the peacekeepers in Donbas should be implemented only when Ukraine will control the whole border with Russia.
