Two Ukrainian soldiers sustained body injuries as a result of a mortar explosion in one of military units in Donetsk region on September 23, as the press office of Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Office reports.
The representatives of the institution stated that on September 23 at around 9 pm, a mortar exploded in one of the military units in Donetsk region. Two Ukrainian soldiers were wounded as a result. They sustained injuries with different degrees of severity.
A criminal proceeding was opened on the case under the article on violation of the regulations relating to the management of weapons and objects, which possess threat for the others. The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by the investigators of Bakhmut police office. The prosecutors of the military prosecutors control the investigation.
The scene was inspected, the needed things were seized, other investigative and procedural activities aimed at a detailed fact-finding are being conducted.
At the same time, it is being decided whether to carry out a complex trial, military, trace evidence, chemical, ballistic and explosive analysis in Kyiv Research Institute of Forensic Examination.
Moreover, the Institute finishes the expertise on the explosion of the mortar in Rivne region, which took place on July 6, 2018, as the representatives of the Prosecutor General Office informed.
At the same time, the Joint Forces Operation HQ reported on Facebook that on September 23, while carrying out military tasks on conducting a return fire, Molot mortar exploded.
“According to the preliminary conclusions of the initial inspection, which was carried out at the scene, and after the questioning of the military the following was defined: possibly, the reason for the explosion was, in particular, the ignorance of the rules of its storage,” the message says.
The condition of the injured soldiers is satisfying.
