Proactive US role in Donbas Conflict regulation would be appropriate

The proactive role of the USA in the regulation of the Donbas Conflict would be appropriate. Linas Linkevicius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania claimed this during the airing of 112 Ukraine, commenting on the expected meeting of Donald Trump, the President of the USA and Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine.

‘Of course, it is necessary to use all contacts. Of course, we expect the strategic partnership in all spheres from the USA, including the sphere of the regulation of the Russian aggression towards Ukraine. At the moment the formats do not work effectively. So the proactive role of the USA would be really appropriate. We hope that this meeting will take place and the results will be notable’, the minister claimed.

Pavlo Klimkin confirmed the meeting of the presidents of Ukraine and the USA. However, he did not specify the dates of the visit.

The Minister noted that the issue of Russia to fulfill the engagements within the Minsk Agreement and the issue of occupied Crimea and access of the international observers to it will be under consideration during the meeting. Also, they will discuss the issue of the bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the USA and help to the Ukrainian reforms. According to Klimkin, they will negotiate on the issue of cooperation in the security sphere. Klimkin announced the important political decisions in this sphere. 

The Minister specified that the sides agreed on the format of the participation of the USA in the negotiations concerning the regulation of the Donbas Conflict.
