Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine and Kurt Volker, the US Special Envoy to Ukraine discussed the deployment of the UN peacekeepers in Donbas as the press service of the Ukrainian president reported.
‘It was noted that Moscow must finally demonstrate political will for a peaceful settlement and agree to deploy the UN peacekeepers in the occupied Donbas, including the uncontrolled part of the Ukraine-Russia state border’, the message said.
Moreover, the sides expressed the concern due to the absence of the progress in the fulfillment of the security points of the Minsk Agreements by Russia.Poroshenko and Volker noted the priority of the peaceful, political and diplomatic settlement of the Donbas Conflict.
Also, the attention was drawn to the adoption of the law of Ukraine on the reintegration of the occupied territories as an element of the common strategy on the restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
As we reported US Special Envoy to Ukraine arrived in Ukraine on January 23, however his visit to Donbas turned out to be under the threat due to the weather conditions.Volker also met Viktor Muzhenko, the Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Vadym Chernysh, the Minister for Occupied Territories and IDPs of Ukraine. The sides discussed the current situation in Donbas.
Volker plans to meet Vladislav Surkov, the Affiliate of the Russian President on January 26 in Dubai. They will discuss the current state of the Donbas Conflict, the perspectives and the possible format of the deployment of the UN peacekeeping mission.
