President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko instructed the Defense Ministry and the General Staff of the Armed Forces to cease fire in the war-torn Donbas. The ceasefire should take effect on April 1, under the respective decision of the Minsk talks group.

‘I instructed the General Staff and the Minister,’ the head of the state said, responding to the question whether the Ukrainian side is ready to comply with the decision made by the parties to the negotiation group; that happened earlier this week in Minsk, on March 29. Back then, the Group agreed that the ceasefire should be settled in the entire combat area since April 1 – due to the approaching Easter holidays.

The Defense Ministry of Ukraine reported that they were ready to comply with the ceasefire since the mentioned date.
